Tessella was founded in the UK in 1980. We have grown to become a global leader in data science and AI consulting. In the UK, we solve complex, real-world problems for clients across a wide variety of sectors, including life sciences, energy and consumer goods and engineering.
We have over 200 staff in the UK, based in 4 offices that are strategically located to serve our clients:
Tessella HQ and the central head office functions are based in Abingdon, including HR, Recruitment, Finance, Sales and Marketing.
Coming from a very independent PhD, the culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing was very refreshing. I'm frequently pushed just beyond my comfort zone, but there's always a safety net of people to help. You're encouraged to highlight gaps in your knowledge and ask for help or training when needed.
In the UK, we recruit STEM graduates and postgraduates throughout the year to join our teams working in data science, AI and scientific software solutions.
We also have vacancies for more experienced technical and commercial professionals.
We take training and development seriously.
In the UK, all technical staff receive an annual training allowance of 20 days. You will have an individual training plan to learn new technical and soft skills, often leading to professional qualifications.
Training can take many different forms including taught courses, self study, mentoring, conferences and workshops.
Cortex is an initiative dedicated to the acceleration of AI capabilities and enables individuals to expand their knowledge base and improve their skills in the field.
Staff can apply to take time away from project work and build skills and practical experience in cutting-edge machine learning methods and technologies.
You will be encouraged and supported to tread your own career path based on your aspirations and shaped by the skills you develop and the projects you work on.
We offer excellent future prospects, whether your path is weighted towards technical, project management, consultancy or something else. You are sure to find a rewarding career to match your ambitions.

We believe that making a profit and growing our business goes hand in hand with responsibilities to our local communities, the environment, our employees and our clients. We engage in activities outside of work to bring staff together.
Tessella holds an annual, carbon-neutral conference where staff from all geographies get together for a week of knowledge sharing, training and social events.
In the UK, we also organise an annual dinner for staff and +1s to attend. These are weekends away with a black tie dinner, all paid for by Tessella.
Every office has its own company-subsidised, staff-led sports and social committee. Events are organised throughout the year, catering to all tastes from lunchtime sports and language clubs to theatre trips and photography competitions.
We support and encourage all of our staff to engage with their local communities. All offices hold community days where we help give something back.
We also offer financial donations to staff involved in charitable events.
Currently Tessella is unable to employ candidates who require sponsorship to work in the UK. However, we very much welcome international applicants who have or can obtain working rights independently of Tessella.
We have limited opportunities for internships and work experience due to the client-based and confidential nature of our work. We typically offer one or two per year, arranged in collaboration with specific university departments.
The process is tailored to different vacancies, but in general these are the steps we follow.
1. Application. The recruitment team reviews applications against current requirements. We will contact you as soon as possible to let you know how your application is progressing.
2. First Interview. The first step is an online video call to find out more about you, tell you more about Tessella and see if we have enough in common to progress to the next stage.
3. Second Interview. If selected, you will be invited to visit one of our offices for a half to full day, depending on the role. You will meet a range of Tessella staff and complete relevant activities to allow us the opportunity to find out more about you, and to give you a feel for what it is like to work here.
4. Offer. If the second interview goes well, we would aim to make a job offer within 1-2 weeks.
